Participation in the World

Vocation is the great reward that comes when our hearts are able to serve the needs of the world.

This is a perfect alignment of the brilliant energy within us that wants to express itself meeting a need in the world that is waiting to receive what each of us, uniquely, has to offer.  This is Einstein’s brilliant imagination meeting our need for more enlightened science; it’s Martin Luther King’s sense of justice meeting our need for egalitarianism; it’s a mother’s deep compassion meeting our need for more love in the world.

Our vocation may or may not immediately begin to pay the bills, but it does make our hearts shine and we will eventually find the world shining along with us.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.

Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me… Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful… that's what matters to me."
