Seven Oaks' Next Phase
Seven Oaks School enters an exciting new phase under the leadership of new Principal, Owen Arnst.
Established in April 2009 with just 11 students, Seven Oaks grew to over 30 students before February's earthquake. Like all schools in Christchurch enrollments dropped as many families left town following the quake. But now numbers are on the rise and look likely to climb steadily, if recent parent interest is anything to go by. Board Chairperson Bruce McIntyre speaks highly of the deaprting Principal, Gaike Knottenbelt, and new principal Arnst. "Gaike created the wonderfully open-hearted foundation that we were looking for. Owen comes with vast experience and a clear vision for education that matches our own. With such a strong foundation in place, we can continue to refine our curricula and grow our student numbers.
Owen comes to Seven Oaks after 10 years as Principal at Cathedral Grammar, a job he left at the end of 2010 to begin a PhD. "This position gives me the opportunity to put my ideas and ideals into practice", says Arnst, "After just a few days at Seven Oaks I felt my 'professional heart' opening up again. I'm looking forward to working with the board, staff, parents and students to create the future of education".
